Tour of Geneva's International District & Sunset Dinner Cruise

Tour of International District & Sunset Gourmet Dinner Cruise

Last afternoon & evening in Geneva.

After our fabulous lunch at Le Flacon, we met up again with Geneva city guide, Sandrina Palomera, for an afternoon tour of the International District.
The area, marked by the symbolic Three-Legged Chair sculpture,
lies north out of the downtown along the west side of Geneva Lake.

The zone is home to the renowned Red Cross Red Crescent Museum,

the United Nations,
many of its agencies (like UNICEF and UNHCR), and the World Trade Organization.

Many of these organizations are housed in former mansions that were donated, along with their expansive estates. Lots of museums, like the Ariana (which houses an extensive collection of the world's finest ceramics)

and the Botanical Garden,

are also housed in donated properties.

Plenty of amazing architecture with innovative technology & design to cut down on energy use.

We took a long stroll along the beautiful lakeshore all the way back into downtown Geneva, following a broad "seawall" that reminded us of Vancouver's own.

Mother swans trailed by fluffy cygnets dotted the crystal-clear lake.

The tall plume of spray from the Jet d'Eau fountain marked our way.

We ended our final full day of touring Geneva with a three-hour gourmet dinner cruise of Lake Geneva (properly known as Lac Leman) aboard the vintage paddle-wheeler, M.V. Savoie.

The clouds had cleared, and we had a spectacular view of Mont Blanc in the glow of the setting sun.

The next day we would be heading into the mountains to visit Zermatt and the Matterhorn.
